John Taylor

I've been stickfighting, kickboxing and training various martial arts for 15 years and have been coaching others, on and off, for about 10 years. Below you can see my Black Belt, slightly chewed, along with my other two credentials, Thunder and Lightning. Go to the Contact page if you are interested in a closer inspection.

Jim

The most old school of the new schoolers, Jim is my assistant coach and has been my main training partner for at least 6 or 7 years. I owe a lot of my personal development to him. Quick, smart and aggressive, he improves every time we train and he never goes easy on me in sparring. He has good critical thinking skills and is always making me re-evaluate my coaching methods.  And he hits REALLY hard.

Chris

As old school as it gets, Chris was there at my very first crappy martial arts lesson. Recently out of the army after THREE tours in Iraq, he is back in Oregon scaring people with his intensity. He is big, athletic, aggressive and has trained with some of the best in the world including Nate "The Rock" Quarry and Captain America himself, Randy Couture. Do not fuck with him.

Bjorn and Sheena

Coming to the club with previous experience Bjorn packs a nasty right hand and an intense ground game. Sheena is newer to the game but eager to learn and tough as nails. She is the only person who has made me tap out from a thumb-bar.

Natalie and Amy

Natalie (on the left) and Amy are good friends and have been training Krav Maga together for several years. They came to Freestyle Fight Club to expand upon their training in preparation for their upcoming cage fights. They both have great killer instinct, are picking up on the grappling aspect of mma very quickly and can punch better than most men I've worked with. They are also very dedicated to training and willing to listen to what I have to say, even if it's very different from what they have been taught previously.

Sean

Coming to the club with no prior experience Sean is an enthusiastic learner. In our first workout whenever I tried to move on to the next item on the agenda he consistently asked to do a few more reps. As a coach that is a pretty awesome thing because I think drive is more important than talent and Sean has showed both. He's also very athletic and has no quit in him.

Tim

Tim has some prior martial arts experience but has come to the club with a clean slate as far as his willingness to learn something new and/or different. Lean, quick and rangy, Tim also asks good questions and seems to really wrap his mind around a subject. Tim also has a little switch in his head that once it goes on, you can see it in his eyes that you do not want to mess with him.

Joe

Joe is new to the game but plays rugby so you know he's not a pussy. That combined with his "go big or go home" attitude make him a force to reckon with. Very aggressive on the feet and with legs like tree trunks, his gaurd will crush you on the ground.

Matt

A member of the club formally trained in brazilian jiu-jitsu, Matt brings an approach to fighting that the rest of us don't often get to experience. He brings practical knowledge and his full-gi training forces us to think of things we normally wouldn't. And he will Judo throw you, bitch.

Cory

Another guy with formal training in brazilian jiu-jitsu and mma. Cory doesn't live in the area but whenever he comes to town we pick his brain for ways to improve our ground game. He's slick on the mat and knows a LOT about the sport of mma.
